What I’m Learning About Showing Up
Aug 07, 2025Some weeks feel light and inspired — the ideas flow, the energy’s high, and you can’t wait to create, coach, or connect.
Other weeks… not so much.
This past week’s been one of the latter for me. My energy’s been patchy, my motivation’s been dipping, and I found myself tempted to just skip making anything at all.
The thing is, I’ve made a commitment to myself — and to you — to keep showing up. And I’ve realised something: the times when you least feel like showing up are often the moments when it matters most.
The Myth of Feeling Ready
We tell ourselves we need to be “in the right mood” to do good work. That if the motivation isn’t there, it’s better to wait until it returns. And yes — rest matters. Breaks are essential. But waiting for the perfect moment can keep you stuck for far longer than you’d like.
I’ve learned that sometimes, it’s the act of showing up that brings the energy back. Sitting down to write, record, or coach without overthinking it — and letting the process itself reconnect you with why you started in the first place.
What Showing Up Really Means
Showing up doesn’t mean faking it or putting on a performance.
- It doesn’t mean pushing through genuine burnout, either.
- It means being present.
- It means doing the thing — imperfectly, maybe quietly — but still doing it.
Not because you feel wildly confident, but because you’ve committed to the bigger picture you’re building.
That presence is what people connect with. Not the polished, “camera-ready” version of you — but the real, right-now version.
A Personal Example
Case in point: this very post almost didn’t happen.
I sat at my desk thinking, What if I just wait until next week? What if I only publish when I have more energy?
But then I remembered: it’s not about being perfect. It’s about being here.
So I opened my laptop and started typing. And once I began…
The ideas came. The words flowed. And the energy followed.
Why It Matters
If you’re a coach, trainer, or content creator, you know that much of the work we do is invisible. The hours of preparation, the quiet doubts, the editing no one sees.
And it’s easy to think that if you’re not firing on all cylinders, you’re failing. But you’re not. You’re simply human.
Sometimes the bravest thing you can do is to show up exactly as you are — no more, no less — and trust that it’s enough.
My Takeaway
What I’m learning is this: consistency isn’t just about algorithms or schedules. It’s about trust.
- Trust in your work.
- Trust in your message.
- Trust in yourself.
- And some days, showing up at 60% is still 100% worth it.
